Yeah, so, that Witchking sword I've been working on, it's just about done. UV mapped and everything (I even modeled out the scrollwork in the crossguard, all thanks to Bryce 5). The fun thing though is this little curse of mine: Nearly ALWAYS, if I'm making a model for KOTOR or just because, there invariably will, at the end of the process, be a point where I have to screw around with the model several times for it to work. And you'll never guess what, it's held out with the Witchking's sword, but a little differently. See, Gmax is a great program, it's a stripped down version of Discreet's 3d Studio Max, still quite capable of modeling and what have you. But there is one thing they did that really makes it feel like they beat you with a spiked club: The character limit on the Maxscript listener. You can't select all of the text in the Listener, so you have to take it into a .txt file piece by piece, and if it's a detailed model like this one, it takes 50 thousand years for one to cut and paste all the crap the Listener churns out into a notepad file. This makes exporting a decidedly arduous process, which exporting a model shouldn't be. And don't get me started on how easy it is to screw up and pretty much doom the whole model file. I mean, I like Gmax, I've gotten quite familiar with it, it would just be so much easier if I didn't have to do this so manually. ~Sigh~
I should just model in Blender.
